Retired Metropolitan Joachim fell asleep on 1st May 2016. The late Hierarch, born John Tsakiris, was born in Pireaus in the year 1934. He was ordained Deacon in Jerusalem by the late Bishop Ilarion of Babylon, in the Holy Church of St Dimitrios Zeitoun, and made an Archimandrite by the late Patriarch Christoforos of Alexandria in 1961. On 1st May 1988 he was ordained Bishop of Tamiathos by the late Patriarch Parthenios III of Alexandria, while in 1998, he was elevated to Titular Metropolitan and retired shortly thereafter.

The late Hierarch served as Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria and Abbot of the Patriarchal Monastery of St George in Cairo, and in 1960 up until 1983 he served in various Metropolises of the Church of Greece and as a Teacher of Theology in many High Schools in the country. Between the years 1983 and 1988 he was seconded as parish priest in Tripoli, Libya. He fell asleep in the Ippokrateion Hospital in Athens on 1st May 2016, The Sunday of Pascha.
