His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa is making an official visit to the See of the Roman Catholic Church, in the Vatican, following the invitation of His Holiness Francis, Pope of Rome.
As part of this visit,on the morning of January 21, 2023 His Beatitude met with His Holiness Pope Francis, to whom he presented the multilateral missionary and humanitarian work that the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria is developing throughout the African continent, the objective problems, as well as the obstacles arising in it.
The two Primates pointed out that in the current period of time, where war, as in the autocratic martyred Ukraine, poverty and destitution, climate change, the refugee problem, the protection of human rights and social inequality, the protection of childhood and women, religious fundamentalism, the crisis of principles and values, etc.,is a one way common struggle for all, primarily of the spiritual orders, for the promotion of the solidarity and brotherhood of the peoples, knowing that the very life of the Church is the great revolution in the area of human relations, the protection, the sanctity and the beauty of the person and the highlighting of his eternal destination in Christ.
Present at the meeting were His Eminence Kurt Cardinal Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity, His Eminence Bishop Brian Farell and the Very Reverend Monsignor Andrea Palmieri, Secretary and Undersecretary respectively of the above Council, Their Eminences Metropolitans George of Guinea, Gennadios of Botswana and Pantelimon of Naucratis as well as the Honourable Mrs Aikaterini Sofianou, Lady Archon of the Patriarchal Throne.
At noon His Holiness hosted a lunch in honour of His Beatitude Theodoros Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.
