His Eminence Theodoros Metropolitan of Heliopolis (born Antonios Dimitriou) was born in Heraklion in Crete. He studied at the Theological Academy in Athens. He was tonsured a Monk at the Holy Monastery of Preveli. He was ordained Deacon and Presbyter by the late Metropolitan Theodoros of Lambis and Sfakion. For 16 years he served the Holy Metropolis of Lambis and Sfakion as a Preacher, in charge of the pastoral, preaching and catechetical work.

He served as Vicar General, Hierachal Vicar, Spiritual Father, Director of the Press and Public Relations Office and Chancellor. He served also as preacher of the Holy Metropolis of Rethymnon and Avlopotamos. He was Dean of the Holy Church of St Nicholas in Alikarnassos for 16 years and developed rich pastoral efforts. He was also Preacher of the Holy Archdiocese of Crete. He was honoured with the Rank of Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne by His All Holiness Vartholomaios the Ecumenical Patriarch and with higher and supreme distinctions by the Patriarchates of Alexandria, Jerusalem and the Church of Crete.

In November 2006 he was elected by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria as the first Bishop of the newly-established Diocese of Mozambique, proposed by His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa and on 27th November 2006 he was ordained in the Holy Monastery of St Savvas in Alexandria. In November 2010 he was elevated to Titular Metropolitan of Heliopolis. On 23rd November 2013 by venerable proposal of His Beatitude, the once glorious Diocese of Heliopolis was elevated to an active Metropolis of the Patriarchal Throne in the person of Metropolitan Theodoros.
