His Grace Bishop Panaretos Kykkotis (Samuel Kimani) was born in 1985 in Gikuni Kabete constituency,
Kiambu county Kenya. After completion of his primary and highschool education, he joined Patriarchal
seminary “Archbishop Makarios III of Cyprus” in 2005 and graduated in 2008 with diploma in theology.
Due to his passion of monastic life, he was to Cyprus at the Holy monastery of Machairas in 2009, where
he was ordained a deacon by H.E. Metropolitan Makarios on 1st May 2010. On 2nd January 2011, He
was ordained a priest in the church of St Demetrius at Metropolis of Konstantias and Ammochostos by
H.E. Makarios Metropolitan of Nairobi. He was tonsured a monk in holy monastery of Kykkos on 9th
September 2011.
Upon his invitation by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria to patriarchate, he was elevated to the rank
of Archimandrite in the monastery of St Savvas the sanctified by H.B. Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria
and all Africa, Theodoros II on 9th September 2015.
Bishop Panaretos graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree (BA) Psychology from European university
Cyprus. Later in 2019 he received his master’s degree (MA) in theology from university of Nicosia
Cyprus. Under the scholarship of Kykkos Monastery, he studied master’s in business administration
(MBA) at the European university Cyprus. Bishop Panaretos is a PHD candidate in department of
theology at the university of Nicosia with the title: “The New Testament of love according to the Gospel
of St John (Jn13:34), The Healing and transformation of the world and humanity.
Bishop Panaretos served at the Cathedral of Metropolis of Kykkos and Tyllirias, Sts Contantinos and
Hellen in Kato Pyrgos Cyprus. He later served at the church of St George Mosfili in the same metropolis.
He has been serving at the church of St Prokopios in Metochi of Kykkos monastery until his election the

bishop of Nyeri and mt Kenya diocese by Holy synod of patriarchate of Alexandria on 24th November
2022.
Apart from his native language Kikuyu, he speaks Kiswahili, English and Greek.
