His Grace Chrysostomos Maidonis Bishop of Bukoba was born in 1956 in Plomari Lesvos to a naval family. He completed his schooling in Plomari where he was born and then studied at the Rizarios Higher Ecclesiastical School (1974-1976) and at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens (1977-1981). After his studies he became a novice to the Elder Hieromonk Spyridon at the New Skete on Mount Athos, where he was tonsured a monk. On 10th August 1982 he was ordained Deacon at the Holy Monastery of St Paul on Mount Athos by Metropolitan Nicodemus of Ierissos and Priest on 27th February 1983 at the Holy Metropolis of St Stefanos in Arnaia. He served for 40 years as a Preacher and 30 years as Chief Secretary of the Holy Metropolis of Ierissos where he developed a rich preaching, spiritual, catechetical work as well as working with the youth. He established the Old Age Home in Arnaia. He ran the Youth Camps of the Great Holy Virgin. He established the Holy Female Monastery of St Cosmas the Aetolian in Arnaia, the Orthodox Youth Association, the Parents’ Initiative and the Parents’ Association of those who had lost their children due to accidents. He constructed the Skete of St Silouan the Athonite, co-authored 25 books and broadcast hundreds of programmes on the 4E Church Channel. He was particularly involved in the anti-heretical effort as a Member of the Synodal Committee on heresies, he was also the President of the Panhellenic Union of Parents, continuing the anti-heretical work of the late Fr. Antonios Alevizopoulos, he was commissioned by the Metropolis of Ierissos on anti-heretical matters, in the anti-heretical work of the Metropolis of Thessaloniki, where he established the Orthodox Macedonian Observatory and the Anti-heretical Seminar. He served for two years 1991-1993 in the Orthodox Church of Albania beside His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios as a professor at the Priests Seminary in Durres and as Hierarchical Vicar in Gjirokaster, He served as a Priest the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the Princes' Islands, Izmir, Ankara and the Metropolises of Myron, New Zealand. He paid missionary visits to the Orthodox Churches of Bulgaria, Serbia, Moldova, Cyprus, the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain, and the Metropolises of Good Hope and Katanga of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. For ten years he taught at the Theological Academy of “St Athanasios the Athonite” in Kinshasa, Congo, 2009-2020 and paid missionary visits to North and East Congo. For 17 months he worked as a missionary in Bukoba, as Patriarchal Commissioner in the Holy Diocese of Bukoba in Tanzania. On January 12, he was elected Bishop of Bukomba by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria. His ordination as Bishop took place in Alexandria, by His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros on 20th February 2022. His enthronement too place on 27th March 2022 at the Holy Metropolitan Church of the Holy Apostles in Bukoba, by His Eminence Ieronymos Metropolitan of Kampala, together with His Grace Agathoniko Bishop of Arusha and Hisn Grace Sylvester Bishop of Jinja.
