His Eminence Emmanuel, Metropolitan of Ptolemaid (born Xenophon Kagias) was born in Athens in 1956. He holds a degree from the Theological faculty of the University of Athens. He was ordained Deacon and Priest by His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Petros of Aksum. He served firstly as Deacon in Cairo and as Priest thereafter in Addis Ababa in the Holy Metropolis of Aksum and for 17 years in the Holy Metropolis of Peristeri. On 27th October 2004 by Venerable blessing and decree of His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, he was elected Bishop by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria of the once glorious Diocese of Babylonos and was placed as Abbot of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St George Old Cairo. His ordination took place in the Holy Community Church of Ss Constantine and Helen in Cairo on 14th November 2004, by His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Petros of Aksum. On 1st November 2006 he was elected Metropolitan of Khartoum and All Sudan. On 21st November 2013 he was elected Metropolitan of Kavasos. On 26th November 2014, by proposal of His Beatitude he was elected by the Holy Synod as Metropolitan of Ptolemaid.

The Holy Metropolis of Ptolemaid includes in its spiritual jurisdiction the region of Upper Egypt (the provinces of Luxor, Aswan, Minia, Fayoum, Assiut and Beni Suef)
