His Eminence Gregory, Metropolitan of Cameroon and Exarch of Central Africa, was born George Stergiou in Megara, Attikis in 1961. In 1984 he was tonsured a monk at the Holy Monastery of St Paraskeve Maziou, of the Metropolis of Megara and Salamina. He was a founding member of the Brotherhood. He was ordained Deacon in 1984 and Priest in 1988, receiving also the rank of Archimandrite His Eminence Vartholomaios Metropolitan of Megara and Salamina. He served as a Preacher at the Metropolis of Megara and Salamina and developed varied pastoral activities. He studied design, drawing and iconography and in 1988 he received his degree in Theology (majoring in Social Theology) from the University of Athens. Following an invitation from the late Patriarch Petros VII, he took over as Director of the Private Patriarchal Office in January 2001 through to July 2002. From May 2003 up until his election he served as Parish Priest of the Holy Church of St Theodoros in Rome, serving also as the Archdiocesan Vicar of Central Italy of the Holy Metropolis of Italy. In Rome he studied at the Pontificium Universita Gregoriana (Corso Superiore per le Belle Arte della Chiesa). On 27th ocotber 2004 he was unanimously elected by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria as Metropolitan of Cameroon. He was consecrated on 25th November 2004 by His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa at the Venerable Patriarchal Church of St Savvas the Sanctified and was enthroned by the Patriarch himself on 23rd January 2005 in Yaounde.

The Holy Metropolis of Cameroon includes in its jurisdiction the countries of Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea and the Islands of St Thomas and Principe.
