His Eminence Daniel, Metropolitan of Aksum, Most Honorable and Exarch of All Ethiopia and Eritrea, (born Dimitrios Biazis) was born in Zakynthos in 1977. After his school education he studied at the Higher Ecclesiastical School in Vellas, Ioannina and then the Theological Faculty of the Aristotelian University of Thessalonica. He holds a Postgraduate Degree in Specialization in the Faculty of Humanities from the Hellenic Open University. He was tonsured a Monk at the Holy Strofadon and St Dionysios of Zakynthos Monastery, was ordained Deacon on 25/12/1997 and Presbyter on 17/09/2006 by the then Metropolitan Chrysostomos II (now Dodonis). He served as Preacher in the Metropolis of Zakynthos and as Abbot of the Holy Monastery of the Most Holy Theotokos Spiliotissa in Zakynthos. He served as a Missionary in the Holy Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa in its Provinces of Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Malawi.  He was Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis of Zambia and Malawi. He was seconded at the instigation of His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa to the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria.  Called to See of the Patriarchate in Alexandria, he served as Parish Priest of the Holy Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria and from 18/1/2017 as Chief Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod. Proposed by His Beatitude and by regular votes of the Holy Synod, he was elected on 26/11/2018 as Metropolitan of Aksum. He was ordained Bishop by His Beatitude at the Holy Holy Monastery of St Savvas of Alexandria on December 5, 2018 and enthroned by His Beatitude on 2/3/2019 at the Cathedral of St Frumentius, Addis Ababa. His Name Day is celebrated on 17th December. He speaks English.


The Holy Metropolis of Aksum was established by Patriarchal and Synodal Tome in the year 1908 and includes in its spiritual jurisdiction the countries of Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia.
