The 9th October 2007 will see the completion of three years since the election of His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa to the renowned Apostolic and Patriarchal Throne of St Mark.
With this blessed event in mind, in Alexandria, the seat of the Patriarchate, His Beatitude Gabriel of Mareotis, Patriarchal Commissary of Alexandria, together with the Clergy of the Great City, conducted the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Patriarchal Church of St Savvas the Sanctified, during which His Grace Gennadios Bishop of Nilopolis, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, gave the homily, referring to the charismatic personality of His Beatitude, as well as to his multifaceted pastoral, social, missionary and humanistic work undertaken during his three-year tenure as Patriarch, giving excerpts from the distributed Patriarchal Encyclical to the Hierarchs of the Throne.
Following the Liturgical Synaxis a celebratory reception was held for the multitudes who had been present, among whom were the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Mr. George Diakofotakis, staff and pupils of the Hellenic Schools of the city, the African students of the Patriarchal School of Alexandria “Athanasius the Great”, who chanted in Greek during the Divine Liturgy, representatives of Greek Associations and societies, et al.
