On the 2nd of March 2022, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, received the US Deputy Ambassador to Cairo, Mrs. Nicole Shampaine, as well as the Minister of Public Relations of the Embassy Mr. Lauren Lovelace, in the presence of the Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria, His EminenceMetropolitan Narcissus of Pelusium and His Grace Nicodemus Bishop of Nilopolis.
In the person of the Ambassador, His Beatitude greeted the President of the USA. Joe Biden. The meeting was held in a very warm atmosphere, with both sides discussing issues of common interest and concern. His Beatitude referred to the very good relations of the USA with the Patriarchate of Alexandria, as well as to the help it provides for his work.
The main topic of conversation was the state of war between Russia and Ukraine, with the Alexandrian Primate condemning Russia's actions and expressing his pain both for the victims of the war and for the previous illegal invasion of the Russian Church in Africa. He also did not forget to refer to the experience of his ten years’ stay in Odessa.
In turn, the Ambassador, after thanking His Beatitude for his hospitality and love, referred to the special interest shown by President Biden in the urgency of the situation and stressed the need for unity that should govern everyone in this difficult period we are going through.
Finally, the Ambassador and the accompanying staff were given a tour of the Patriarchal Palace and the Archaeological Museum.
