His Beatitude crossed the threshold of the Maximos Palace shortly after 12:00, where he was warmly received by the Prime Minister.

According to information, His Beatitude informed Mr. Mitsotakis about the progress of the work of the Patriarchate in Africa and especially about the humanitarian programs and the care for the provision of drinking water to young children and the youth.

As a seal of this concern, he offered the Greek Prime Minister a painting of African art on the subject of the ‘water crisis’.

The Prime Minister accepted the gift with great pleasure, while briefing the Patriarch about the very good relations between Greece and Egypt.

He also referred to yesterday’s telephone conversation he had with the Egyptian President and stressed to the Primate of Alexandria how much President Al Sisi values and respects the Patriarch and the institution of the Patriarchate.

He then expressed his regret for what is happening in the neighboring country and especially with Hagia Sophia, and finally the two men expressed their support for the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
