Today, November 9, 2020, the memory of the patron saint of the ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria, Hierarch Saint Nectarios, Bishop of Pentapolis (8/11/1920 – 8/11/2020), was celebrated with great brilliance and enthusiasm at the eponymous Chapel of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Savvas the Sanctified of Alexandria, where Saint Nectarios received the second degree of the Priesthood, that of Priest.

The Divine Liturgy was conducted by His Grace Germanos, Bishop of Tamiathus, and concelebrating together with him in prayer was His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.

It should be noted that this year completes 100 years from the Dormition of Saint Nectarios and for this reason, His Beatitude paternally asked all the Hierarchs of the Patriarchate of Alexandria to organize functions in honour of the Hierarch Saint Nectarios. Despite the fact that the celebrations were humble, due to the pandemic, they did not lack beauty and splendor.

Prior to the dismissal, the Alexandrian Primate addressed the festive homily of the day, in honour of Saint Nectarios.

His Beatitude mentioned the person of the Saint, his patience and the important work which he left as a sacred heritage.

With particular emotion, he expressed his gratitude to the Triune God for the joyous and blessed circumstance that the 100th celebration of the Saint coincides with the days of his Patriarchal tenure and fervently implored that he never ceases to intercede to the most Merciful Lord for the flock of the Church.

In concluding his homily and having prayed for the speedy elimination of the Corona Virus, he conveyed as a spiritual balm of comfort to the souls of the Christian flock, the timeless advice of the Holy Father.
