The Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Egypt, Archbishop Nicolas Thévenin, visited the patriarchal Vicariate in Hamzawi in the Egyptian Capital on Monday, 19th April 2021.

The Apostolic Nuncio was welcomed by Bis Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, and they had the opportunity to discuss the problems faced by Christias in the Middle East, as well as the manner in which the local Christian churches were dealing with them.

Archbishop Nicolas expressed his joy on meeting the Primate of the Orthodox Church in Africa and his and his satisfaction with the work done by the Second Throne Patriarchate, both in the Land of the Nile and oon the African Continent.

For his part, the Patriarch of Alexandria mentioned the many visits he made to the Vatican accompanied by the late Patriarch Parthenios, from 1990 to 1997, and asked the Archbishop to convey his fraternal and Patriarchal greetings to Pope Francis, noting the great historical relationship between the two Churches, referring to two great pillars for the church, as he defined the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Holy See in the Vatican.

It is important to emphasize the interest shown by the Apostolic Nuncio in the enormous cultural and religious treasure maintained by the Patriarchate of Alexandria in both Cairo and the Patriarchal See in Alexandria.

The Primate of Alexandria, after inviting the Spiritual Officer of the Holy See to visit Alexandria, referred to the great and important program of restoration of more than 500 historical manuscripts, with the help of the Alexandrian Library and the AG Leventis Foundation in Cyprus.

He also referred to the importance of ecclesiastical education for the Patriarchate, inviting the Apostolic Nuncio to visit the "Athanasius the Great" Academy in St. Savvas of Alexandria, as well as the Rotunda of the East, the Monastery of St. George in Old Cairo, and also spoke of the many schools and colleges established by the Patriarchate of Alexandria throughout Africa.

Present during the visit of the Apostolic Nuncio was the Patriarchal Vicar, of Cairo His Eminence Nicodemus of Memphis who took the Roman Catholic Bishop on a guided tour of the Cathedral of St Nicholas.
