His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, celebrated on 6th May 2021 the Patriarchal Festive Vespers in the hisotric Holy Monastery of St George in Old Cairo, and on the next day, 7th May, the day of the Feast of St George, he officiated at Orthros and celebrated the Divine Liturgy, together with Their Eminences Metropolitans Nicodemus of Memphis, Nicholas of Ermopolis and His Grace Theodoros, Bishop of Babylon.

Honouring the feast with their presence were His Excellency the Ambassador of Greece to Cairo Mr. Nicholas Garilides, the consul General of Greece Mrs. Maria Zisi, the Consul Mr. Achilleas Bikis, the Legal Advisor of the Patriarchate of ALexandria Mr. Sakis Kehayoglou, representatives of the Hellenic Community of Cairo and of the Arabic Speakers of Egypt, many faithful, amongst whom were Romanian priests and pilgrims, priests from Korea and the Coptic Church.

The Primate of the Second Throne Patriarchate in his homily on the day of the Celebration, referred to the Coronavirus pandemic, emphasizing that all of humanity that is tired is now waiting for the Light.

"In this anxiety, it is a great blessing, this Friday after Pascha, that we sing Christ is Risen from the dead. All the leaders of small or large countries are anxious, trying to secure the blessed vaccine because they want to see their people healthy and happy", said Patriarch Theodoros and added that through this uncertainty, through the clouds we raise our gaze to the sky and we see the Light.

The Patriarch spoke about the personality, the wonderful and robust life of St. George, emphasizing that people from all over the world, Christians and Muslims, come to worship his miraculous icon.

The Primate of the Second Throne Patriarchate referred once again to the great work of the restoration of the Holy Monastery of St. George which was undertaken by the Great Benefactor of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa Mr. Athanasios Martinos.
