On the evening of February 17 2023, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, was warmly received by His Excellency the Ambassador of Egypt to Kenya, who hosted a dinner in his honor at the ambassadorial residence. Dozens of members of the Diplomatic Corps in Kenya attended, including the Ambassadors of the countries of Greece, Uganda, Eritrea, Mozambique, Jordan, Ukraine, Zimbabwe, etc., the representative of the United Nations in Kenya and His Excellency the Representative of the President of Kenya.

The Egyptian Ambassador praised the work and the presence of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria in his country, in its historical presence, as well as in the person of His Beatitude he greeted his flock in Egypt.

His Beatitude referred to the Egyptian President His Excellency Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, whom he thanked for the love and protection he provides to himself and to the Patriarchate, saying characteristically:  “I feel my hands free to worship God and to carry out my work unhindered in the blessed land of Egypt. This is thanks to our President Mr. Sisi”.

On the morning of February 18, His Beatitude and his entourage departed from the Kenyan capital Nairobi for the city of Nyeri, starting his pastoral tour in the Holy Diocese of the Alexandrian Throne.

Upon his arrival in the city of Nyeri, His Beatitude founded a Holy Church which will be built in the name of the Holy Glorious Great Kings and Co-Apostles Constantine and Helen, as well as a Hospital. The Hospital under construction will be built on a plot donated by the Reverend Protopresbyter Samuel Kariuki Maina, with the noble donation of the Most Reverend Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain.

His Eminence is a contemporary and supporter of the multi-level Missionary work of our Patriarchate, and with the suggestions of His Eminence George Metropolitan of Guinea regarding the needs of the Patriarchate, he offers particularly important help.

Immediately thereafter, the Primate of the Patriarchate of Alexandria went to the Holy Church of Saint Anthony of the Holy Diocese of Nyeri and Mount Kenya where he received a warm welcome from the clergy of the Diocese and a Doxology was sung in his honor. Following the Doxology, His Beatitude visited the Girls’ Orphanage where, with his inspiring speech, he gave strength and hope to the orphaned girls of the Foundation.
