     On 8th March 2009, the Sunday of Orthodoxy, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa conducted the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of the Annunciation in Alexandria as well as the procession of the holy icons. Before the end of the Eucharistic Synaxis, which was attended by His Excellency the Ambassador of Greece to Egypt Mr John Alexis Zepos, the Honourable Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr George Diakofotakis, the President of S.A.E. Mr Stephanos Tamvakis, accompanied by all the members of the Council, the Chairman of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria Mr Haralambos Katsimbris,. the Chairman of the Cyprus Brotherhood Mr Haralambos Haralambidis, the Chairman of the Alexandrian Chamber of Commerce Mr. Byron Vafiades, the Chairman of the Hellenic Naval Club of Alexandria Mr Edmond Kasimatis and other dignitaries, His Beatitude conducted the annual memorial service for the late Chairmen, Great Benefactors and Members of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria.

     The dignitaries then went to the Patriarchal mansion, where His Beatitude hosted a reception in the Throne Room in honour of the Presidency of S.A.E. Welcoming the representatives of millions of Hellenes living abroad, the Venerable Primate of the Alexandrian Church said: “The heart of Hellenes living abroad beats today in Alexandria . I thank you for all that you do for the Church, for Hellenism in the Diaspora, for our Patriarchate. I want you to know that I am always with you”.

      In his turn, Mr Stephanos Tamvakis President of S.A.E.  passed on the wishes and greetings of Hellenes everywhere and assured His Beatitude that S.A.E. would always support the missionary work of the ancient Patriarchate on the African continent.
