On 24th November 2022 His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa and the Members of the Holy Synod attended the Divine Liturgy held in the Catholikon of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St George in Old Cairo, on the sacred commemoration of Saint Petros, Archbishop of Alexandria, after which a holy memorial service was chanted for the repose of the soul of the late Patriarch Petros VII of Alexandria, as well as prayers at his tomb by His Beatitude.

Thereafter, the deliberations of the Holy Synod began with His Beatitude awarding the Supreme Order of St Savvas the Sanctified to Their Eminences Metropolitans Ioannis of Zambia, Panteleimon of Naucratis and Innocent of Burundi and Rwanda, upon completion of ten years of conscientious  hierarchy.

Afterwards, the His Eminence Panteleimon Metropolitan of Naucratis Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, developed a proposal on the subject: “Organization and conduct of a Patriarchal visit to an ecclesiastical Province of the Throne”. Also, a dialogic discussion was held on particular pastoral and administrative issues, which were presented by Their Eminences Metropolitans Nikodimos of Memphis, Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Ioannis of Zambia, Theodosios of Kinshasa and Chariton of Kananga.

Then the Holy Synod, on the recommendation of His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch, proceeded to the transfer of the His Grace Neophytos Bishop of Nyeri to the Holy Diocese of Eldoret in Kenya, while he elected the Very Reverend Archimandrite.Panaretos Kykkotis as Provincial Bishop of Nyeri and and the Very Reverend Archimandrite Chrysostomos Xynos as Auxiliary Bishop of Vereniki.

Furthermore, His Grace Germanos Bishop of Tamiathus, Head of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Savvas of Alexandria, was promoted to Titular Metropolitan of Tamiathus. Lastly, His Grace Cosmas, Auxiliary Bishop of Constantiani was appointed as Patriarchal Vicar of the Holy nMetropolis of Brazzaville and Gabon.

Concluding the deliberations of the Holy Synod, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa congratulated the excused absentee His Eminence Alexandros Metropolitan of Nigeria on completing his 25th most productive year of hierarchal and missionary ministry.

He also expressed wholehearted thanks to all the Hierarchs of the Apostolic Throne of Saint Mark for the painstaking and sacrificial pastoral work they carry out in Africa, pointing out that at the very center of the missionary activity, the spiritual training of the Christian people, the evangelization and the qualitative upgrading of the life of our African brothers and sisters, remains constant.
