On 8th September 2023, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa served the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria.

In attendance during the Eucharistic Gathering, were Members of the Cypriot Brotherhood of Great City, on the feast of Our Lady of Kykkos, Protectress  and Patron of the Brotherhood, as well as a delegation of the Cyprus National Guard, which is participating in the multinational exercise Bright Star’ 23, taking place in Egypt.

Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude, supported by Their Eminences Metropolitans Panteleimon of  Naucratis, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, Narkissos of Pelusium, Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria and Germanos of Tamiatheos, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saint Savvas of Alexandria, served a sacred memorial service for the repose of the souls of his blessed Predecessor Petros VII Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and the members of his entourage, who lost their lives during the air tragedy of September 11, 2004.

Afterwards, the Venerable Primate of the Alexandrian Church received the delegation of the Cyprus National Guard in the Throne Room of the Patriarchal Palace. During his address, His Beatitude referred to the historical journey of the Alexandrian Church, its current missionary activity in Africa, while he described with honorable words the work of his late Predecessor, Pope Petros VII, during his seven-year Patriarchal tenure. Finally, he expressed thanks to His Eminence Nicephorus Metropolitan of Kykkos, for the donation of the marble bust of the late Patriarch

On their part, the heads of the Cypriot military delegation expressed the joy and blessing they felt visiting the Patriarchal See, while praising the sacrificial and quietly accomplished ministry of the Second Throne Church on the African continent. This was followed by an exchange of commemorative gifts and a tour of the grounds of the Patriarchal Palace.
