Today, 15th September 2015, at the See of the Patriarchate, following an invitation from His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, an Internal Holy Synod was convened at which Their Eminences Metropolitan Nicholas of Ermopolis, Metropolitan Gabriel of Leontopolis, Metropolitan Nikodemos of Memphis and Metropolitan Niphon of Plousion participated to deliberate current issues, amongst which are the following:

1)    The voluntary resignation from his District of His Eminence Metropolitan Ioakeim of Zambia and Malawi, who is numbered among the retired Hierarchs of the Throne, now to be known as former Metropolitan of Zambia.

2)    In a spirit of condescension and reconciliation the ecclesiastical situation in Northern Uganda was deliberated, as that has developed following anti-canonical activities of some clergy serving there. The handling of the whole situation was left to the prerogative and the paternal care of His Beatitude, who will soon be visiting Uganda to see for himself and to form his own views and opinions.  For now though, it is announced that the Patriarchate, never established, neither does it consider as existing, the irregular formation known as the “Diocese of Northern Uganda”. by the ringleaders.

3)    His Beatitude gave pastoral instructions to the Hierarchs who serve in Egypt for overcoming the difficult situations formed in recent years.
