The Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa, with deep emotion and anguish of heart, announces the passing to the Lord of His Eminence, Niphon, Metropolitan of Pelousion.

The late Metropolitan of blessed memory fell asleep in the Lord today, Tuesday 8th December 2020 at his home in Port Said.

His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, deeply devastated sang the Trisagion at the Patriarchal Chapel of Ss Theodori for the repose of the sou, of the late Metropolitan Niphon, together with the Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod.

Metropolitan Niphon, (born Nikitas Tsavaris) was born in Nicaea Attica in 1959. He holds a Degree from the Theological Academy of Athens. He was seconded to the Patriarchate of Alexandria in 2005 and since then has given his services to the Holy Monastery of St George in Old Cairo as its Abott, being fully responsible for the coordinaton of its complete restoration. On 6th October 2009, by proposal of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria, he was elected Auxiliary Bishop with the title of the once glorious Diocese of Babylon, maintaining his Abott;s duties at the Holy Monastery. He was ordained Bishop by His BEatitude on 18th October 2009. On 26th November 2014, by proposal of His Beatitude he was unanimously elected as Metropolitan of Liousion by the Holy Synod.
