His Beatitude, Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, in a personal letter to the Primate of the Antiochian Church sent on the 6th of August 2020, expressed His solidarity and fraternal support following the unforeseen tragedy in Beirut.

The Letter of Solidarity

Your Beatitude Ioannis, Patriarch of Antioch, the Great City of God and of All the East, most beloved brother of my Mediocrity and concelebrant in Christ our God, I embrace Your Revered Beatitude fraternally in the Lord and address You most sincerely.

It was with great pain that we received the news of the terrible and unexpected tragedy that struck Beirut, the Bride of the Levant and through this, the entire noble and long-suffering people of Lebanon. With the deepest pain in our soul, We hasten to unite our prayers and supplications with those of Your Beatitude’s, that the Lord of mercy may look upon Your flock that is enduring this great trial, and pour a balm of consolation on the souls of those brothers and sisters among the Christians that needlessly and horrendously suffer, and on those of all people.

Your Beatitude, the entire plenitude and the clergy of the Church of St Mark, will pray to the Lord night and day for the speedy healing of the wounds of the people of the heavily wounded Beirut.

Embracing You with a holy kiss in the love of the Lord and particular honour,

Your Revered Beatitude’s beloved brother in Christ

Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa.
