His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI issued an invitation to His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, to visit the Vatican . The Papal letter was sent to the Patriarchate by the Nuncio of the Roman Catholic Church of Egypt, His Grace Michael Fitzgerald.
In the same letter, this meeting between the Primates of the Catholic Church and the Second Throned Patriarchate of the Orthodox is regarded as “important and significant”.
Cardinal Casper, the Chairman of the Papal Committee for the Progress of Christian Unity, is expected also to meet with His beatitude.
The date for the above-mentioned visit to the Vatican by the Alexandrian Primate will be set shortly.
