On Sunday, May 15, 2022, His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, had a meeting with His Excellency the Minister of Tourism and Culture of Egypt, Mr, Khaled Anani, in the area of the centuries-old pilgrimage sites of ancient Nitria (King Mariout).

During this important meeting, His Beatitude was informed about the start of restoration works of the four most historic Coptic Orthodox monasteries of Upper Egypt (Minya) following a decision by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi from the Egyptian state, so that pilgrimage tourism can be developed in the Land of the Nile with special emphasis on the steps of the Holy Family during the Flight of Jesus to Egypt.

Within the framework of the above pilgrimage / tour program, the Minister also announced the inclusion in it of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St. George of Old Cairo (ancient Babylon of Egypt), as the place of the final refuge and protection of the Holy Family. His Beatitude expressed the deep gratitude of the Ancient Church of Alexandria to the Republic of Egypt and its President for this great movement of unity, solidarity and progress for the benefit of all parties involved
