On the evening of January 14, 2023, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa officiated during Great Vespers at the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Savvas of Alexandria, together with His Eminence Isaiah Metropolitan of Tamasos and Oreini from Cyprus, the Synodal Hierarchs of the Patriarchate of Alexandria His Eminence Panteleimon Metropolitan of Naucratis, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, His Eminence Narcissus of Pelusium Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria and His Grace Neophytos Provincial Bishop of Eldoret, as well as His Holiness the Titular Metropolitan Germanos of Tamiathus, Abbot of the aforementioned Holy Monastery. Thereafter the Service of the Great Message of Bishop-Elect Panaretos of Nyeri and Mount Kenya was served.

Before the dismissal, His Beatitude addressed Rev. Metropolitan of Tamasos, in whose person he expressed his gratitude to the Church of Cyprus, as well as to the Holy Royal Monastery of Kykkos, for the demonstrated understanding towards the missionary work on the African continent. He also expressed thanks for the love and care of the Theotokos Monastery for the elected Bishop Panaretos of Nyeri,  shown over the years.

He also mentioned tomorrow, January 15th, which is an important day for the old Patriarchate, as it commemorates on the one hand the memory of Saint Gerasimos of Palladas, Patriarch of Alexandria (1688-1710), and on the other hand the restoration by the Synod under the blessed Patriarch Petros VII of Saint Nektarios (January 15, 1998) for his unjust expulsion from a branch of the Throne.

In closing the Alexandrian Primate offered His Eminence a Hierarchical Pectoral set of great spiritual value, containing fragments of the  holy relics of St Gerasimos Palladas and Russian Saints, praying with tears that  the Saints will protect the unity of the Church from divisions, originating from expediencies alien to the Orthodox teaching and the Christian ethos, and political and passionate opinions of a political nature.

The ceremony was preceded by a visit from His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah of Tamasos with a group of clergy from Cyprus to the Patriarchate of Alexandria, where they had a meeting with His Beatitude, to whom they donated a holy icon of the Virgin Mary of Kykkos.

It is noted that the ordination of Bishop-Elect, His Grace Panaretos of Nyeri and Mount Kenya will be held tomorrow, Sunday January 15 2022, at the Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Savva the Sanctified in Alexandria.
