On 13th March 2011, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa travelled to the area of Ddegeya to the Parish Community of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, which comprises also an orphanage, primary school, high school, lyceum and a hostel for 1500 children from the area as well as other far off areas.

Following the enthusiastic welcome which the faithful of the area gave His Beatitude, a doxology was sung at the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour. During his speech His Beatitude spoke about the significance of the feast of the Sunday of Orthodoxy and expressed his particular love and ceaseless paternal concern for the children of Africa who are the future of the continent.

There followed a programme of local African dances and songs by the children as a token of love and respect to the Venerable Primate of the Alexandrian Church.
