     On 28th May 2008, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, accompanied by his entourage left  Kokstad and traveled by road to East London, via Umtata, where he met with the few Greeks still living in the area.

     In the afternoon His Beatitude arrived in East London . His Beatitude was welcomed at the Holy Church of St George where a Doxology was sung, by the Parish Priest Father George Pittaras, the Consul Genereal of Greece in Cape Town Mr Xanthopoulos, the Chairman of the Hellenic Community if East London Mr. George Hatzigiannis, the Honourary Chairman My Phillip Pouroulis, representatives of other Greek Communities, pupils and many faithful.

     The Hellenic Community then hosted a dinner in honour of  His Beatitude at a luxury hotel in the city, which was attended by representatives of the Roam Catholic and Anglican Churches .

     His Beatitude also inaugurated an exhibition of old artifacts and writings from the history of the Hellenes of East London.
