On 31st October 2007, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa had an hour-long meeting with His Excellency the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr Konstantinos Karamanlis, together with the Elder Petros Metropolitan of Aksum, His Beatitude’s Representative in Athens and with His Excellency Ambassador Mr Aristidis Sandis.

 

Affording His Beatitude an great welcome with honours at the Maximou Palace, the Prime Minister praised the multifaceted humanistic and missionary work of the Ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria on the African continent, and received a message from the Venerable Primate of the Alexandrian Church, regarding current issues and promised immediate action.

 

During his reply, His Beatitude expressed his great satisfaction on the progress of his beloved homeland and wished the Prime Minister continuation of his excellent work for the country and its people. He also expressed grateful thanks to the Greek Government and to the President of Egypt Mr Hosni Mubarak for their protection and support of the Patriarchate.

 

In commemoration of this visit, Mr Karamanlis presented His Beatitude with a copy of an old Gospel Book.
