     On 15th March 2011, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa met with His Excellency the President of Uganda Mr. Yower Kaguta Museveni. The meeting took place at the Presidential palace in Kamapala and present at the meeting were His Eminence Metropolitan Jonah of Kampala, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Meletios Koumanis and the Orthodox Parliamentarian Mr. Theodore Ssekikubo.

    His Excellency the President welcomed His Beatitude to Uganda, thanked him for the message of love and peace which he brings to his country and expressed his appreciation for the contribution of the Orthodox Church, both in Uganda as well as in the rest of Africa. During His conversation with His Beatitude he spoke of ancient Greek history which he knows well, as well as theological matters as he is also a Christian.

     In his reply His Beatitude thanked His Excellency Mr Museveni for the warm welcome, spoke extensively of the general pastoral, missionary and humanistic efforts of the ancient Patriarchate and expressed gratitude for his assistance to the local Church and Metropolitan Jonah, with whom he has developed a multifaceted collaboration,  and social issues.

     His Beatitude then awarded the Great Cross of the Apostle Mark with a Star to His Excellency the President.
