       In the Afternoon of Thursday 23rd February 2012, His Beatitude Theodoros II Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa met with His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone Mr. Ernest B Kamoro at the Presidential Palace.

       Accompanying His Beatitude on the courtesy visit to the President were His Eminence George Metropolitan of Accra, the Patriarchal Vicar of Sierra Leone the Very Reverend Themistocles Adamopoulos, the Charge d’ Affaires of Egypt  and others. Also present at the meeting was the Minister of Foreign Affairs who presented the Alexandrian Primate to the President and spoke briefly about the efforts undertaken by the Orthodox Church in Sierra Leone, emphasizing particularly its contribution to education and to health.

        The President then thanked His Beatitude for the honour of visiting his country saying that it is the first time  a Senior Church Leader has visited the country, warmly welcomed him and thanked him for the efforts of the Alexandrian Church and assured him that the state will always assist the work of the Church. In his turn the Patriarch thanked the President for the warm welcome and the help that the local authorities give to the efforts of the Orthodox Church to support the people of Sierra Leone, which for eleven whole years was severely tormented by the civil war, and stressed his particular feelings he has for it, as it was he himself that established the Diocese in Synod. He then awarded him the Great Cross of St Mark.
