     On 5th March 2009, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa met with His Excellency the Minister of National Education and Religion of Greece, Mr. Aris Spiliotopoulos, together with the representative of His Beatitude in Athens, His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Petros of Aksum and the Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria, His Grace Bishop Gabriel of Mareotis, as well as the Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mr. Stephanos Vlastos.

     His Beatitude congratulated The Minister on his recent undertaking of his duties at his Ministry and expressed his content for Greece’s ceaseless care for the significant issue of education of the Greeks in Africa and the Diaspora generally. He also discussed with Mr. Spiliotopoulos issues regarding the correct operation of the Patriarchal Academy of Alexandria “Athanasios the Great”, as well as of the Patriarchate.

     The Minister undertook to make every possible effort to fulfill the requests discussed, and expressed his admiration for the important missionary work of the Alexandrian Church on the African continent.
