     On 11th October 2011, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa paid an official visit to His Excellency the Ambassador of Egypt in Zimbabwe, Mr Basem Halil,who hosted an official lunch in his honour at the Ambassadorial residence in Harare.

     Welcoming the Venerable Primate of the Orthodox Church of Africa, the Ambassador spoke of the centuries old fraternal relations between the Greek and Egyptian people, while also praising the contribution made by the Patriarchate of Alexandria to the traditionally harmonious co-existence between Christians and Muslims in the Land of the Nile. He also expressed the belief that Greece will be able ti overcome the present financially difficult situation.

     In his turn His Beatitude praised the virtues of the Egyptian people and thanked Egypt for its assistance to the Second Throne Church, which in its turn always prays for the progress and prosperity of the pure and noble Egyptian people whom he always “keeps in his heart”. His Beatitude then gave a silver tray bearing the emblem of the Patriarchate to the Ambassador and his wife.

     Present at the lunch were His Eminence Seraphim, Metropolitan of Zimbabwe and Angola,His Grace Nikodimos Bishop of Nitria and Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, His Eminence the Ambassador of Zimbabwe in Russia Mr Kusakov, the Chargeesd’ Affaires of Greece and Egypt Messrs. Stephanos Ioannides and Hotsam Basari, the lady of the Churches mrs Ariadne Psillos and Mrs Helen Koumides,Chairlady of the Federation of Hellenic Communites of Zimbabwe.
