On 15th October 2007 His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa visited the Theological Academy of Kiev, where he was given a hearty welcome by the staff and students “the future of the Ukrainian Church”, as he called them.
“The entire Church of the Ukraine is glad because it welcomes His Beatitude the Alexandrian Patriarch, from which so many saints have come…” emphasized the Dean of the Academy, His Grace Bishop Antonios, who then proclaimed His Beatitude an Honourary Member of the Council of the Theological Academy.
In his reply, His Beatitude Theodoros II expressed his grateful thanks for the honourary title granted to him. He also mentioned the two thousand year old path of the Church of Alexandria as well as its fruitful contribution to the forming of the Orthodox dogmatic teaching and Holy Tradition, looking toward the future which is being expanded in all the countries of the African continent.
