     His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa made statements to the media immediately following the speech made by the American President Mr Barak Obama, on 4th June 2009 at the University of Cairo .

     “The ancient Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa always supports every effort which promotes the harmonious coexistence of Christians and Muslims, which is something that we see and experience in Egypt”, emphasized the Alexandrian Primate, adding that “with this meaning in mind we support every move which highlights peace, friendship and love between people, from wherever this effort may come”.

     His Beatitude also had a brief discussion with Mrs Hilary Clinton the American Secretary of State.

     His Beatitude attended the speech of the American President as the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Africa, following an invitation by the Egyptian Presidency, briefly curtailing for this reason for just a few hours, his pastoral journey in Nairobi , Kenya .

     The Venerable Primate departed again on the night of the same day for Nairobi , in order to officiate at the official spiritual, liturgical and festive functions, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the Holy Metropolis of Kenya, on the Sunday of Pentecost, 7th June 2009.
