    On 2nd July 2011, at the Holy Church of ST George in Old Cairo, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, awarded the Cross of St Mark with a Star to His Excellency Ambassador of Cyprus in Cairo, Mr Konstantinos Leontiou, on the completion of his Ambassadorial tenure in the Land of the Nile.

    Addressing His Excellency the Ambassador His Beatitude spoke of the many years of ties from when he served at the Holy Metropolis of Zimbabwe, as well as the tenure of Mr Leontiou to whom he expressed his gratitude and the prise of the Alexandrian Church.

     He went on to express his love for the people of Cyprus and prayed for the very fast finding of a just and viable solution to the national problem of Cyprus, as well as his appreciation to the Most Holy Church of Cyprus and its Venerable Primate, His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos, for the assistance which he gives the missionary effort of the Patriarchate.

     Present at the ceremony was His Excellency the Ambassador of Greece Mr Christodoulos Lazaris.
