On 9th October 2011, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa once again declared his sadness over the economic crisis in Greece and the crisis plaguing our country, from Harare in Zimbabwe during a function organised in his honour by the Federation of Hellenic Communities f Zimbabwe on the occasion  of the 7th anniversary from his election to the rudder of the Second Throne Patriarchate.

“My heart is wounded when I look at what is happening in Greece”, sasys the Alexandrian Primate and continues, “How is it possible for Greece, who gave civilization to the lengths and breadths of the universe, to have reached this low point? Greece gave birth to most sciences, but now we hold her in contempt…Perhaps because some people showed no concern for her and so brought her to this difficult position…”.

However, he did not hide his optimism for the future, expressing the certainty that “better days will come”.
