On 24th March 2012 His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, officiated at the Great Vespers at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria. His Beatitude was accompanied by His Grace Gabriel Bishop of Mareotis, Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria.
On 25th march His Beatitude officiated at the Divine Liturgy and preached the Homily at the Cathedral which was celebrating, together with His Grace Gabriel of Mareotis.
Present at the Eucharistic gathering were the Honourable Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr Christos Kapodistrias, the Chairman of SAE Mr Stephanos Tamvakis, the Chairman of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria My Ioannis Siokas, Chairmen of Hellenic societies, teachers and students of the Hellenic Schools of the Great City and many faithful.
A Doxology followed for National Day during which the Consul General Mr Kapodistrias read the message of His Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr Karolos Paoulias to Greeks living abroad.
