       On 10th November 2007, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, received at the Patriarchate His Eminence Makarios of Gortynis and Arcadia together with many pilgrims from Crete.
       Addressing His Beatitude, His Eminence passed on the best wishes of the Ecumenical Throne and the Synod of the Church of Crete, for the success of the multifaceted missionary and spiritual work of the Alexandrian Patriarchate to the nations of the African continent.
       In his reply His Beatitude expressed his gratitude for their support of the missionary effort to the island of his birth, Crete, the local Church as well as to the Monastery of Agarthos which has given three other Patriarchs to the Alexandrian Church: Patriarch Sylvester (1569-1590), Patriarch Kyrillos Loukaris (1601-1620) and Meletios Metaxakis (1926-1935).

       On 11th November 2007, His Beatitude officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Patriarchal Church of St Savvas the Sanctified, which was attended by the Commander, Officers and Crew of the Frigate “HYDRA”.Following the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude received the officers of the Greek Navy at the Patriarchal Palace and expressed his thanks to them for their support while he was in Cameroon. He donated a valuable Gospel Book to the Frigate.
