     On 24th march 2011 His Beatitude Theodorοs II, Pope and patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa officiated at the Great vespers at the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria. His Beatitude was assisted by His Eminence Nicholas Metropolitan of Hermopolis and His Grace Gabriel Bishop of Mareotis, Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria.

     On 25th march His Beatitude also officiated at the Divine Liturgy and preached the homily at the Cathedral in Alexandria, concelebrated by the two above-mentioned Hierarchs.

     Present at the service at which the hymns were sung in Greece by a large choir of the African Students of the Patriarchal Academy of Alexandria “Athanasios the Great”, were the Honourable Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. George Diakofotakis, the President of SAE Mr Stefanos Tamvakis, the Chairman of the Hellenic Community of Alexandria Mr Ioannis Siokas, Chairmen of Hellenic Associations and societies, the teachers and pupils of the Hellenic Schools of the Great City and other dignitaries. The celebratory speech was given by the Erudite Mr. Apostolos Trifyllis, Educator and Director of the Patriarchal Library of Alexandria.

     An official doxology followed for the National Day, during which the Honourable Consul General Mr. Diakofotakis read the message of His Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr Karolos Papoulias to the Hellenes abroad.
