THE SUNDAY OF PENTECOST IN ALEXANDRIA

     On Sunday 23rd May 2010 His Beatitude conducted the Divine Liturgy at the Holy cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria, concelebrated by His Grace Savvas Bishop of Burundi and Rwanda, His Grace Gabriel Bishop of Mareotis, Patriarchal Vicar in Alexandria and His Grace Spyridon of Kanopos.Prior to the end of the Eucharistic gathering,

     His Beatitude awarded the Cross of the Apostle Mark to Dr Athanasios Petrides, Director of the 3rd Dermatological Clinic of the A. Syggros Hospital, for the successful organization and completion of the deliberations of the scientific conference which took place in the Alexandrian Library, under the auspices of His Beatitude and under the title “Awaiting Childbirth”.

     A reception of the congregation followed, of which 460 were doctors-conference goers, in the Hall of the Throne in the adjacent Patriarchal Mansion, where His Beatitude spoke of the historical journey of the Church of Alexandria and its witness to contemporary society.

     A reception was then held in the gardens of the patriarchal Residence.
