THE PATRIARCH OF ALEXANDRIA’s MEETINGS WITH THE ARCHBISHOP OF CYPRUS, THE AMBASSADOR OF EGYPT AND THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION

His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa is paying an official visit to Cyprus from 6th to 10th September 2021.

Today, 7th September, the Patriarch visited His Beatitude Chrysostomos Archbishop of Cyprus, accompanied by His Eminence Athanasios Metropolitan of Cyrene.

The two Prelates discussed the prevailing ecclesiastical situation on the African continent, the difficulties, future projects, the difficulties of the missionary evangelical work and other current ecclesiastical issues.

In addition, His Beatitude the Patriarch visited the Ambassador of Egypt to Cyprus Mr. Amro Hamza.

During their friendly and warm meeting, the excellent relationship between the countries of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt was emphasized.

They also commented on the positive results of the very recent visit of His Excellency President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis to Egypt where new horizons are opened in the cooperation of the two countries on all levels.

His Beatitude did not hide his emotion, once again, and his joy that he is in Cyprus and that this country supports the work of the Patriarch of Alexandria so much.

In addition, in the person of the Egyptian Ambassador, His Beatitude thanked the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, for the unconditional love and respect of both himself and his country for the Ancient Alexandrian Throne, donating a plot of land in a central part of the New Administrative Capital of Egypt, the newest Capital of the world, where the Church dedicated to St. John the Merciful from Amathus in Cyprus will be built, as well as the center of friendship of the nations (Egypt, Greece and Cyprus).

Finally, they discussed with His Excellency the Ambassador the problem that Egypt is facing regarding the management of the waters of the Nile River, where, among other things, His Beatitude stressed that water is a gift from God and one person cannot deprive another of it, because water belongs to all the countries watered by the blessed Nile River, and to Egypt too, to give life and joy to the people.

The same day, His Beatitude had a cordial meeting with the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Mr. Prodromos G. Prodromou, during which they discussed all issues concerning the educational institutions of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Africa, how to support students and His Beatitudebriefed the Minister about the forthcoming Center for Studies and Dialogue as well as the Theological Academy of the Patriarchate of Alexandria which will be based in Cairo.
