THE PATRIARCH OF ALEXANDRIA RECEIVED THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF CYPRUS MR. NIKO CHRISTODOULIDES

On Saturday 22 May 2021, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, received at the Patriarchal Vicariate in Cairo, His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides.

Addressing His Beatitude, Mr. Christodoulidis stressed: "My presence here is a clear indication of the appreciation of both the President of the Republic and the Republic of Cyprus and the Cypriot people for your multifaceted work in the humanitarian, social, and, of course, religious sectors. It is with great pleasure that your work is recognized not only in the governments of Cyprus and Greece, but in the entire region".

Thanking Mr. Christodoulides for his visit and his warm words, His Beatitude emphasized that "It is a great strength for the Missionary Patriarch that you are giving me, so that I can continue the humanitarian work throughout Africa. I express a big thank you to Cyprus, to Greece but also to Egypt, these three countries that in reconciliation give a strong example that people can live peacefully, under the protection of the same God, and in fact in the Mediterranean area" .

Thanking the President of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Anastasiades and referring to the Cypriot issue, the Alexandrian Primate expressed the wish that "I wish the Cypriot people that I adore and love, that justice be done. "Because it has to come".

The Patriarch also stressed that, "It is a great honor, Mr. Minister, because you had a lengthy meeting this morning with the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, the man who listens to me, loves us, supports me in the great humanitarian work of the Patriarchate, and this fills me with strength and confidence for the great humanitarian work performed by the ancient Patriarchate”.

It should be noted that the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis with the Patriarch of Alexandria discussed the proposal of creating a training program for 15 African midwives in Cyprus, with the Patriarch warmly thanking Cyprus for the support of the Missionary work of the Orthodox Church.

Present at the meeting were the Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo His Eminence Nicodemus Metropolitan of Memphis, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Egypt Mr. Homer Mavromatis and the Chairman of the Cypriot Brotherhood of Cairo Mr. Pantelis Haralambous.
