THE PATRIARCH OF ALEXANDRIA ON THE RESURGENT HOSTILITIES IN THE SUDAN

From the first moment of the start of the bloody hostilities in the capital of Khartoum, Sudan, on April 15, 2023, the His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, has been in constant telephonic communication with the local Pastor, His Eminence Savvas, Metropolitan of Nubia – who sacrificially stands with his flock and shelters in the Metropolitan home – and through it with the Greeks who live in the country.

Also, His Beatitude is cooperating on the issue with the Ambassador of Greece in Cairo, Mr. Nikolaos Papageorgiou, whose diplomatic responsibilities also include the state of Sudan.

Tomorrow, April 18th, the Primate of the Alexandrian Church, in a scheduled meeting he will have in Cairo with His Excellency the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mr. Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, will have discussions with him in this regard, with the aim of protecting the Greek residents and the resolution of the emerging problem, since Egypt is actively involved in the disengagement and peace process in the neighboring country of Sudan.

His Beatitude asks paternally for everyone’s prayers, so that reason and peace prevail between the parties involved in the conflict.
