THE PATRIARCH OF ALEXANDRIA MEETS WITH THE METROPOLITAN OF ACCRA

On 3rd march 2011, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa received at the Patriarchal See, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Leonid Gorbacev, Exarch of the Russian Church in Egypt, for official reason.s

            On the next day, 4th march 2011, His Beatitude received His Eminence George, Metropolitan of Accra, Representative and Director of His Beatitude’s Office in Athens, with whom he held discussions on official issues.

            On this day His Eminence George completed ten years from the day he was ordained as Bishop of Nilopolis by the late Patriarch Petros VII (4th march 2001).

            For this reason prayers were held in the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Alexandria, where His Eminence had served as Dean and was ordained as a Hierarch. Present at the prayers were His Beatitude and His Grace Gabriel of Mareotis, Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria.

            Also present were the Honourable Consul of Greece in the Great City Mr George Diakofotakis, the Clergy of the Patriarchate and the African students of the Patriarchal Academy of Alexandria “Athanasios the Great”.

            Addressing His Eminence George of Accra, His Beatitude spoke of his ten years of productive hierarchal service as Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria originally, beside the late Patriarch Petros VII and then as Metropolitan of Zimbabwe and now Accra and gave him a hierarchal pectoral cross.

            A celebratory gathering in honour of His Eminence took place in the Patriarchal mansion.
