Patriarch of Alexandria: We are waiting for justice for Cyprus

"We are waiting for the justification of the struggle of Cyprus for a fair solution to the Cyprus problem," said the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodoros II to KYPE, on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the Independence Day of Cyprus, which is celebrated every year on October 1. Sending his wishes for the solution of the national problem to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis and the Cypriot people, Patriarch Theodoros II states that "we celebrate this great day for the martyrdom of Cyprus, which became independent from Britain in 1960, after the Zurich-London agreements. But, at the same time, we expect justice to be given to the struggle of Cyprus for a fair solution to the Cyprus problem".

"On this occasion, we send our warmest patriarchal wishes to our friend and very dear President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, that God may strengthen his multifaceted work for the development of the state and his tireless efforts to resolve our national issue", says the Alexandrian Primate in his statement to the Cypriot News Agency and his correspondent in Cairo, Nikos Katsikas.

"We also address our fraternal greetings and blessings to the Archbishop of New Justinia and of All Cyprus, Chrysostomos II, praying that the Church of Cyprus will always intercede for the efforts for the good of this place, which stands out as a “gold-green leaf tossed in the open sea", for all the struggles of the God-fearing Cypriot people for full justification of our national problem", Patriarch Theodoros points out.

At the same time, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Africa emphasizes the fraternal relations between the three countries and their peoples, with Egypt and its President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi – always supporting the Republic of Cyprus, further strengthening the Cairo's relations with Nicosia, and together with Greece, making the Mediterranean a sea of peace and prosperity for all the peoples of the region. “Many Years” to our blessed Cyprus", concluded Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria.
