HIS BEATITUDE PERFORMS THE SERVICE OF THE SANCTIFICATION OF WATER AT THE PATRIARCHAL ACADEMY OF ALEXANDRIA FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR

     On 21st September 2010 His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa performed the Service of the Sanctification of Water at the Patriarchal Academy “Agios Athanasios” in Alexandria, for the beginning of the new academic year.

     During his brief address His Beatitude passed on his paternal counsel and prayers to the African students whom he assured that he will personally be concerned with their further journey and, God willing, their future priestly service following their graduation and their return to their countries of birth. He also thanked the Dean Archimandrite Narkissos Gammo and the teachers for their conscientious work.

     His Beatitude also visited and blessed the totally renovated information technology workshop, where the students learn how to use computers.

     The historic Patriarchal Academy was re-established by His Beatitude during the 2007-2008 academic year, after 470 years, so that indigenous African staff could be trained there for the missionary effort of the Patriarchal Throne. During the 2009 academic year the first students graduated from already new young Orthodox Africans from various African countries are studying there attending lessons in agriculture, nursing, theology, information technology as well as Greek and Arabic language.
