HIS BEATITUDE IN CYPRUS

On the afternoon of Wednesday 15th September 2010, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa arrived in Cyprus, following an invitation by His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos II, of Cyprus.

His Beatitude was welcomed at the Airport in Larnaca by His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos and the Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese of Cyprus, Archimandrite Ieronymos Pyliotis. In the VIP lounge the two Primates spoke to the media and both mentioned the reason for their meeting in Cyprus. His Beatitude stressed among other things the significant role played by the Church of Cyprus in the Middle East, particularly by the strong personality of Archbishop Chrysostomos.

That night His Beatitude the Archbishop of Cyprus hosted a dinner in honour of His Beatitude the Patriarch of Alexandria as well as the Patriarchs of Antioch and Jerusalem, who are also guests of the Archbishop of Cyprus.

On 16th September 2010 the four Primates will meet at the Archdiocesan Mansion to discuss vital issues with regard to the Middle East Council of Churches as well as issues on peace in the broader area.

During his visit to Cyprus, His Beatitude Theodoros II of Alexandria is being accompanied by His Eminence George Metropolitan of Zimbabwe, His Beatitude’s representative in Athens and His Eminence Nicholas Metropolitan of Ermopolis.
