HIS BEATITUDE GIVES GUIDELINES FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF MISSIONS IN MOZAMBIQUE

On 18th February 2014, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa held a Priest’s gathering at the Holy Diocese of Mozambique in Maputo, during which His Beatitude discussed in detail together with the local Bishop Ioannis and his clergy, the future aims of missionary activity in the Diocese as well as the problems which arise from the missionary effort.

His Beatitude decreed that missionary activity in the fields of youth, education and health, be extended in Beira, Nampula and Melatze, as well as in the centre of the Diocese, in Maputo. He also expressed the wish that, apart from the daily distribution of food in Beira, food should also be distributed among the homeless and abandoned street children in the newly-established missionary centre in the capital, Maputo.

On the afternoon of the same day, His Beatitude the Patriarch paid a private visit to the slums in the Samankulu area, where he saw the living conditions of the people there and tried to pass on to them the comforting word of hope of Christ.
