FEAST OF THE ARCHANGELS IN DAHER, CAIRO

On the occasion of the feast of the Great Archangels Michael and Gabriel, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa visited and officiated at all the religious functions at the Arabic-speaking Parish in Daher, Cairo.

On the eve of the Feast, the Alexandrian Patriarch, together with His Eminence Nikodimos Metropolitan of Memphis, Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo and His Eminence Niphon of Pilousion, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of St George, officiated and preached the homily, in the presence of representatives of the Armenian, Protestant and Coptic Churches, who he also addressed suitably. The representative of Patriarch Twandros II, gave on behalf of him an icon in Coptic art form.

Thereafter, the customary procession around the outside of the Holy Church was held, and after the dismissal of Vespers His Beatitude inaugurated the outdoor exhibition of Christian books which was held for the first time as part of the festive functions. The main aim of the organizers was to promote and disseminate quality books with a great variety of titles of Orthodox spirituality in collaboration with many publishers and multilingual translations of books from Russian spirituality.

On the main day, His Beatitude conducted the Dibine Liturgy at the crowded Church, concelebrating with His Eminence Nicholas Metropolitan of Hermopolis and the above-named Hierarchs, attended inter alia by the Honourable Consul General of Greece in Cario Mrs. Lambrini Komini, the Chairman of the Arabispeaking community Mr. Robert Hoshny and other representatives of institutions of the Egyptian capital.

During the Divine Liturgy His Beatitude consecrated four Readers from the group of the chanters, saying that these promising youngsters will in the future be deployed in the Church as priests or chanters.

In conclusion, a projection was shown of the pilgrimage of the male youth of the Parish of Daher to the Garden of our Lady during the recent summer, accompanied by Archimandrite Damaskinos El Kedeah and the Patriarch thanked and congratulated the Parish workers for the beautiful spiritual activities.
