COMMENCEMENT OF THE DELIBERATIONS OF THE HOLY SYNOD OF THE HIERARCHY OF THE ALEXANDRIAN THRONE

At the Holy Patriarchal Center in Alexandria, today, October 7th, by invitation of His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Alexandrian Throne commenced, which is being held with a special blessing this year, upon the completion of a fifteen year tenure since the Alexandrian Primate ascended to the Apostolic Throne of the Evangelist Mark of Alexandria.

After the completion of the morning Holy Service of Orthros in the Synodal Chapel of Saints Theodore, the first meeting of the Hierarchs commenced, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude, in the hall of the Holy Synod.

After the prayer, the Alexandrian Primate addressed the members of the Hierarchal Synod and welcomed those who were participating for the first time.

On behalf of the Hierarchs, a speech followed by His Eminence Makarios, elder Metropolitan of Nairobi, which expressed the sincere wishes of the Holy Synod to His Beatitude for the anniversary of his tenure.

His Beatitude then presented to the Holy Synod, a summary of the period 2018-2019 to the present day, making extensive reference to the endless acts of love he made during the previous year in the length and breadth of the African continent, in support of its Orthodox flock.

Thereafter, the floor was given to the first rapporteur, His Eminence Makarios, Elder Metropolitan of Nairobi, who analyzed the subject: ‘Regulations of the Patriarchate of Alexandria – Proposals’.

A debate on the proposal followed, followed by a presentation by His Eminence Seraphim, Metropolitan of Zimbabwe and Angola, on ‘Proposed Positions of the Patriarchate of Alexandria on Current Ecological Issues’.

Following a discussion on the above issue, the morning session ended with the distribution of a commemorative gift to all the members of the Hierarchy by His Beatitude, celebrating his anniversary.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Holy Synod continued its deliberations. During the afternoon session the reports of the activities of the Holy Diocese’s and Hierarchs of Throne were read.

The Holy Synod will continue the following day.
