A WARM WELCOME FOR THE ALEXANDRIAN PRIMATE FROM THE ARABIC SPEAKERS IN DAHER

The past, present and future of the Greek Orthodox Arabic-speaking community of Dacher in Cairo were honored today by Theodoros II, Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, in the beautiful Church of the Archangels in Daher, in the center of the Cairo capital.

Through the ‘marriage’ of Greek and Arabic Byzantine melody, hundreds of believers were blessed by the Primate of Alexandria, who in turn honored the past, present and future of this community.

Thus, the Primate of the African Orthodox Church commemorated its late President, Farid Huri, who ‘left’ forever about a year ago, performing his annual memorial service. At the same time, he symbolically honored the former President Mr. Robert Hosni, who served for many years from this position, now handing over to the younger generations, and in fact giving the Alexandrian Primate his personal staff to thunderous applause.

And finally, he decorated with the medal of the Lion of the Apostle Mark the current President of this active body, Mr. Salem Kassis, who is one of the three Vice-Presidents of the Arabic-speaking Greek Orthodox Christians throughout Egypt, representing over 500 families in the Daher area of Cairo.

In fact, in the presence of the Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Metropolitan Nikodemos of Memphis, the Patriarchal Vicar for the Arab-speakers Metropolitan Nikolaos of Ermoupolis and the Consul General of Greece in Cairo Mrs. Maria Zisis and the President of the Arabic-Speakers Mr. Claude Nakas, patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria unveiled plaques honoring two new spaces dedicated to the late Farid Houri and former President Robert Hosni, with Arab-speaking scouts playing and chanting the Egyptian national anthem.
